My very first attempt at drawing Bob in a semi-realistic style. I've been thinking about doing this ever since I wrote Act X of "Being Bob". I wanted to try to draw him the way Marge sees him in that chapter (handsome), only I can't decide whether I was successful or if I ended up making him look really geeky instead.
Here a few excerpts from "Being Bob" Act X that describe Bob in detail, on which this picture is based:
"...for the first time ever she began to notice little things about the man that had terrorized her family for the past few years.
The high cheekbones, the circles under the eyes… even a light sprinkling of freckles across the bridge of his nose that lent credence to his being a natural redhead....
...If you had asked Marge what color Sideshow Bob's eyes were before now, she could never have given you a confident answer. From a distance, they looked brown, sometimes hazel. Up close, devoid of their usual malice, they were a deep but dazzling olive green. Like jade with a touch of amber. They were really quite beautiful. Marge couldn't help thinking that he was actually a rather handsome man – when he didn't have that stabby look."
Who thinks I should draw other members of the Terwilliger family like this?
Me too. Well, either green or hazel. Too bad we have no idea what color most Simpsons characters' eyes are. The only one I know for sure is Marge, because I remember them making a big deal about it in one episode where Homer couldn't remember what color they were. Turns out her eyes are hazel. And I THINK I recall somebody complimenting Lisa on her blue eyes once, a looonnnnng time ago.
